Be a social butterfly...

Hello lovelies,

I want to start by saying thank you so much for reading Vintage Folly.  I love it! I love, love, love, love it when you comment and share my posts.  I love the private, heartfelt messages that I receive.  I love reading back over my old posts and seeing the incredible journey that I’ve been on since this site began back in October 2011 and I love that you have been there with me through the ups and downs, the triumphs and the hiccups.

As a result of your support, my readership has increased dramatically over the last year and Vintage Folly is getting noticed by advertisers and sponsors.  There have been alot of offers and so far I have turned them all down.  I’ve had a number of reasons for saying no to advertising and sponsored posts. Firstly I didn’t want anything to feature on my site that I didn’t agree with or that would look out of place, such as gambling websites or ‘adult chat lines’ (no I’m not joking!) and secondly I was worried that you’d think I’d ‘sold out’.  I also didn’t want the feel of the site to change or for things to appear ‘planted’ or out of place.

I love this website, it has been made from my life: my family, my loves, hurts and adventures.  It’s my baby and I’m quite protective of it and the lovely people that visit it every day.

So I’m a little bit worried about taking this next step but I do think it’s the right thing for me at this time.  I’m going to be writing some sponsored posts.

I put alot of time and energy into Vintage Folly and while I’m not working full-time, it seems only sensible to incorporate some advertising or to accept payment from suitable companies.  So this is what I’m going to do and I hope you won’t think less of me for it.  If anything, I believe it will improve the quality of the website, as with sponsored posts and advertising comes opportunities, adventures and special offers for my readers.

Please do be assured of the following:

I will always tell you if a post has been sponsored

I will never give you a dishonest review or opinion of a product or service

I will never write about something just because I’ll be paid to do so.  Posts will always be inkeeping with Vintage Folly and relevant to you, my regular readers.

I won’t allow Vintage Folly to become cluttered with ads.

If it gets weird, I’ll stop doing it!

There are a number of companies, large and small, who have expressed an interest in working with me and I’m quite excited: I hope this will be a positive move.

If you want any more information or if you are a company who would like to discuss sponsorship and advertising, drop me an email rachelvf@live.co.uk and I’ll be happy to chat with you.

Thank you so much for being here, you all feel like my friends and I hope you’ll support me in this new venture.

Love Rachel

  • I just started following VintageFolly, and I love it! Thank you for your honesty. I will still continue to follow as long as the ads are in line with what we have in common and they are tasteful and not vulgar. (Which I have no doubt they will be ok.) Be very cautious signing contracts. Have a lawyer look over it. Make sure you are not signing over your brand. I’m not sure of your laws, but consider copyrights and registered trademark for Vintage Folly. Ok! That’s all! Congratulations on this huge NEXT step! And you do deserve to be paid for your work! Thank you for doing it! I support your decision! Good Luck!

    • Thank you Angela, all sound advice. There are some crooks out there but so far I will be dealing directly with companies/brands as I’m such a worrier lol x

  • Do it 🙂

  • Go for it Rachel ! I’m one of your long-term subscribers & you clearly put lots of effort, and much thought into your posts. If you can earn a little along the way then that’s great. Some posts are fun, most are creative (I’m really into card-making myself) and others are straight from the heart. So much so that I haven’t commented as I’ve not found the right words to say. e.g. your baby blog last week. Now that was so heartfelt. Thank you for sharing your life & thoughts with us, keep up the good work! x

Congratulations Rachel! That’s fantastic news, I’ve been reading your blog for ages now and I don’t think it will change the lovely writing that you do at all. I don’t think anyone will think you’ve sold out either it’s amazing for you and you should definitely go for it! xx

      Thank you Peta xx
