Blogging has put me in touch with some amazing people.  Without Vintage Folly I would never have met some of the people I now consider my dearest friends.  I feel like I’m part of a huge community that I didn’t know existed!

I met Suzie through blogging and our shared love of Vintage and following her own post over at Old Fashioned Susie, she challenged me to take part in a blog hop.

What is a blog hop?  Well basically I answer a bunch of questions and then challenge another two bloggers to do the same.  This means that all you lovely folk get to read some new blogs that you might not have come across before and find out a little more about the people who write them 🙂  So here goes..

Why do I write?

I write because I’d probably go mad if I didn’t!  I love writing – putting words onto a page (or screen) makes me happy.  On blue days it helps me to make sense of my problems (though I don’t tend to publish those posts!) and on the best of days is serves as a way to record every smile, every joy.

I write for me and I write because I like to share with others.  I get such a kick from hearing that someone’s baked cakes using one of my recipes, bought a book because I told them it was brilliant or got crafty because they were inspired by something they saw on my website.    And when I write more personal posts, it gives me such a lift to follow the discussions they promote and feel like perhaps, just perhaps i might have helped someone.

What am I working on?

I’m working on posting more regularly!!  Since I went back to working in an office, I’ve struggled to find the time to post.  This site is like a little piece of me on the web, so I feel bad that these days I seem to be neglecting it.

I’m full of good intentions of course – if you could see how many unfinished posts I have on Vintage Folly you’d be shocked!  So I suppose I should really be working on fishing some of those.  I have so many new ideas though and lots of crafts, recipes and reviews in the pipeline for Halloween, Bonfire Night and Christmas – and there are some exciting collaborations on the horizon.  I intend to dedicate a whole category to recommended companies: brands, photographers, make up artists, restaurants….the list is endless.  Keep your eyes peeled for Vintage Follies 🙂

How my blog does it differ from others of its genre?

I’m not sure which genre my blog actually fits into!  This has posed problems before now, when I’ve had to sign up for Blogging events or when I’ve been nominated for awards (just thought I’d throw that out there haha!).  I don’t feel like I fit in to one category.  I gush post about my family – but I wouldn’t call myself a Mummy Blogger, I develop and share recipes – but that’s not all I do and I make pretty things but I’m still learning self taught and wouldn’t call myself a craft blogger.

Of course my blog’s called Vintage Folly and if you’ve ever met me face to face you know why.  I love all things vintage: the clothes, the hair, the music – but I’m no expert and we lead a very modern life!

So the answer is….it doesn’t fit into any one genre!

How does my writing process work?

I certainly don’t have a writing schedule, but perhaps I should :-S  I write when the fancy takes me!

I write on my laptop, usually in the living room and usually in the wee small hours, which like most bloggers, is the only time I have spare at the moment.

Usually my posts are lead by images – I might spend the day doing something fun or interesting and take some great pictures.  Then later on I’ll use those images to help me structure a post.  I try to write recipes so that my husband a novice could follow them and reviews so that I include all the information I would want to know if I was the reader.  When I write more serious or personal posts, I just try to get all of my thoughts out in one go before sorting and organising them so that they make sense to someone other than me 🙂

I nominate Linzi of  Lancashire Food, Lisa of Twins Tiaras and Tantrums and Rachel of dolcedella

Look out for their posts on the 8th of September 🙂

Love Rachel

I read so much of this nodding my head. My blog doesn’t really fit a catagory either, a real mixed bag, and most of it done in the early hours. Thanks for sharing.

  • I am so glad to find out that I am not the only one with lots of started and never published posts. One day, One day…
