Something old, something new, something borrowed something blue…and a silver sixpence in her shoe!
We’ve all heard the old adage and so powerful is this bridal check-list that few, myself included would get married without satisfying it!
Old and new were easy, as was the silver sixpence. I have a new dress; new shoes etc and my jewellery is handmade from vintage pieces. As far as concerns the sixpence – we have a small collection!!
Goodness knows what I will borrow: I have been offered a great many beautiful things, but none has looked quite right. Perhaps I will borrow some lipstick!
Blue is more difficult as there are so many options; a garter, shoes, toe nail polish, pale blue topaz earrings…what to choose?
This Christmas my beautiful little girl did something that will stay with me forever. She spent a considerable amount of her own money (£8.00 is alot for a 9 year old!) on a gift for me. She bought me a vintage, blue glass, flower brooch.
We were at a Vintage Fair when Bethany bought my lovely gift and although I knew she had been up to something, she somehow managed to keep the details a secret until Christmas Day.
Watching me with great excitement, as I opened it she said: ” It’s your ‘something blue’. ”
I don’t think I need describe how I felt? Honestly I love her so much that sometimes it makes my heart hurt. I didn’t cry very much at the time, but every time I see it or think about it now, I begin to well up. She’s so precious.
I will wear it with great pride attached to my bouquet. I’m such a lucky Bride.
