Bunting and Pennants – Kate Haxell

What they say:

In this fun addition to the Twenty to Make series Kate shows how to make twenty gorgeous bunting designs in a range of stunning fabrics and finishes. Perfect sewing projects to adorn the home and garden, these bunting designs are also fabulous for parties, weddings or to celebrate Christmas. Full sewing patterns/templates are included, as are full instructions for each bunting project. The projects include: Spots & Stripes Bunting, Christmas Tree Bunting, Garden Party Bunting, Pom-Pom Bunting, and many, many more. Each of the twenty finished bunting are shown in beautiful styled photographs. The small size of the book makes it a brilliant gift or stocking-filler.

What I say:

This is a decent book.  It is a small book; only A5, but I bought it from Amazon for less than the RRP of £4.99 and it was definitely worth the money.

My concern on purchasing the book was whether 20 variations on a basic bunting pattern were actually possible and that potentially I was simply buying a book of ‘colour ways’. This was certainly not the case.

The book has 20 completely different techniques using various stitches, both with a sewing machine and by hand and is actually quite inspiring.

The photographs are beautiful and show various styles on bunting in different settings to show how you can create a decoration for any room or occasion.

There is even a section at the front with step by step instructions on various hand stitches, which comes in really handy as you get further into the book, especially for a relative newbie to some of the more advanced sewing techniques: like me.

All in all I’d consider this an inexpensive, informative, useful book.
